Rarely has our country experienced both a sense of urgency for hope, and a fear of tension that could lead to falling off the brink. It is in this melee of emotions that we thought of how information is consumed. More importantly, this moment revealed to us how little we know of each other across various divides. We recognized that the media we consume is navel gazing towards only one part of the country, as if a part represents a whole.
In our first issue we go to the polls. As Nigerians prepare to vote in a couple of days we take a look at four major presidential candidates. We look at their beginnings and how they hold sway in the country. We examine their weaknesses and strengths and how this will likely play out in the polls. These elections have brought up the past, and projected the possible future of the country.
While Nigeria is big and nuanced, we will attempt to cover the stories that crisscross around it. We will ask hard questions, combining analysis with storytelling. We will prod those spaces largely ignored and question policies across different states in the country. We are well aware of this gargantuan task, but it must be done. Narratives will be challenged, and sweeping claims will be questioned.
We hope to bring quality and nuanced work. Journalism can be expensive, and so all we ask for is your time to read what we produce, and to share what we publish.
